CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs acquired right-hander Jacob Turner from the Miami Marlins on Friday in exchange for minor league right-handers Jose Arias and Tyler Bremer. To make room for Turner on the 40-man roster, the Cubs designed outfielder Ryan Kalish for assignment. Turner, 23, was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the first round (No. 9 overall) of the 2009 draft and traded to the Marlins in 2012 as part of the deal that sent Anibal Sanchez to the Tigers. Turner split time this season between the Marlins rotation and bullpen, going 4-7 with a 5.97 ERA. He is 9-21 with a 4.77 ERA in 53 major league appearances (45 starts) over the past four seasons with the Marlins and Tigers. "He was one of the better starting pitching prospects in all of baseball a couple of years ago and we feel like that talent is still in there," Cubs president Theo Epstein said. "If you look at his velocity, its still there. If you look at some of the peripheral numbers, theyre still pretty decent. "Weve had some success with talented pitchers who are going through tough periods, kind of just getting them here and letting them reset a little bit." Wholesale Nike Shoes For Sale . Kevin Streelman, who played with Matt Kuchar in the American team at last weeks World Cup, retired on the fourth hole due to an eye infection. Playing for the first time in Australia, he was later taken to hospital for treatment. Streelman, playing with Scott and Jason Day, shot 70 in the opening round Thursday and began Fridays round with a birdie. But as his eye condition worsened, he had a 5 on the par-3 third and a bogey on the par-4 fourth before deciding to retire. "Its pretty rough right now but well see what we can do," Streelman said. "The doctor said it was pretty badly infected. "Ive been trying to do some drops but I started getting dizzy and its the first time Ive ever (withdrawn) at a tournament ... Im really sad to do it." Streelman won the PGA Tours Tampa Bay Championship in March and finished second with Kuchar behind Day and Scott in the team event at the World Cup at Royal Melbourne. ' ' '
